Vanessa Wilson, Paralegal

VANESSA WILSON

I started my career working as a fulltime temp.  This opportunity has given me the benefit of working in multiple firms of various sizes and areas of law.  After the decision to move into a more permanent position I took the steps to go back to school.  After leaving SAIT I worked in primarily family law and child welfare law. After a brief sabbatical in floor sales, I returned to legal services in 2016.  Once again as a full time temp.  This experience exposed me to corporate securities and pension law.  These experiences has given me a customer service focused approached to my duties with HD Law.  I have recently started a program with Athabasca University for a Bachelors of Professional Arts.

Since I started with Jason Demers in April 2017, we have worked on growing his criminal defence, civil litigation, family, personal injury and represented adult surrogate practice.  This has stressed a focus on providing exceptional service to our clients.

Outside of work I am active with my youngest son’s air cadet program.  Over the course of the last five years I have volunteered on the Parents Sponsoring Committee as a two term secretary.  This position moved me to work with the program officers as a Civilian Volunteer.  I spent two years as the Supply Officer, with recently being transferred into a Training Officer as of September 2020.  My end goal is to be a uniformed officer with the Canadian Armed Forces Cadet program.  When I am not at cadets you will find me at either at the gym, participating in Calgary’s burlesque scene or hanging out with my cats.  I am also an avid video game enthusiast, cross-stitcher and chicken wing fanatic.
